Justine's Swazi Adventure
Some photos of my Swazi adventures...
Me with my host family “brother” Samkelo and host “sister” Sisi. We’re standing in the rubble of a house on our homestead that collapsed during a big storm.
This is a group shot of my host family. From left to right: Mkhulu (grandpa) Albert, Samkelo, Sisi, Kwanele, Gogo (grandmother) Jabulile, Make (mother) Sibongile and the dog, Eliza. And I’m in the back.
Me with my host family sister’s son, Mpendulo Siyabonga. He was born in June, so in this photo he’s about 2 months old.
Me painting a map of Swaziland at my local high school. Since most of the students can’t afford textbooks (they aren’t provided by the school), I painted maps of Swaziland and the world on the walls in the courtyard, which the teachers now teach by.
Group shot of myself, the 2 house mothers and the 24 orphans living at Pasture Valley Children’s Home. The woman next to me is Michelle McCubbin, who runs the home, the girl next to her is her daughter and the boy in front of me is Luke, her son.

Me at the annual Umhlanga, or Reed Dance. I somehow got a seat in the middle of the King’s regiment, who function as his personal escorts and bodyguards for the ceremony, and what you see here is their traditional dress.
